What Brought These Two Together

What brought you two together?

We met in October 2021 on the dating app Hinge. We both knew we wanted a serious relationship and to start a family. Amber was starting to believe a dating app was not for her and was about to delete the app. She decided to give it one more try and fortunately, she quickly matched with Phi. Our profiles were very similar and both placed value on health / fitness, family, and wanting to start our own family. I always joke ( but it’s partially true ) but there was a picture on Phi’s profile of Phi and his yellow lab Ronin on the beach together and I thought “if this works out, I get to become an instant dog mommy to this sweet little puppy. “ Ronin played a role in reeling her in for the first date. Our favorite season is Fall and anything revolving around pumpkin so it was fitting that we had our first date on Halloween at a local brewery over a pumpkin beer. When Phi walked around the corner, he gave me a huge smile and hug. Right then in his arms, I knew he was going to be someone who would change my life forever. The conversation and chemistry on that first date was so natural and pretty quickly into the relationship, we both fell hard for each other. Flash forward to December 2022, where Phi proposed to me outside that same brewery over the same pumpkin beer we had on our first date with our families watching and filming the entire proposal from the window of a restaurant next to us. Amber is also loving her new role as mommy to Ronin.

Why did you decide to get married?

As cliché as it sounds, when you meet the right person, you just know it. That’s how it was for us very quickly into the relationship, a feeling that we belong together. We share similar values and goals in life and we want to work together towards those goals as partners. We want to support each other through whatever challenges life brings and we have faith in our ability to get through life together. We both come from close-knit and loving families, and we cannot wait to create ours together. Marriage is more than just a certificate on a piece of paper. For us, marriage is about honoring each other for the rest of our lives.

What are your top 5 things to do together:

1. We love to spend time together with our families. Both of our families live very close by, which is very nice. Amber has a niece and nephew who adore their Uncle Phi and it’s always fun spending time with them, and her mom, brother, and sister-in-law. Phi comes from a very large Vietnamese family who host family dinner every Sunday. For us, its a great way to catch up with family and specifically for Amber to experience a new culture. 2. We enjoy relaxing together at local breweries and wineries. We love to get away from our hectic schedules, smooth out whatever rough edges the week has raised, and enjoy each other’s company over stunning views and delicious brews and wines. 3. We love to cook together. Our work schedules are the exact opposite with Phi working the night shift. Cooking dinner together or meal prepping for the week is our one consistent activity in the busy week that we use to connect with each other. It gets us communicating, laughing, and working together. 4. Health and fitness are something we both value heavily and we consider it one of the most important things in a relationship. We enjoy taking our dog Ronin outside and on hikes. There are a lot of great trails in western Loudoun. We love to pack a backpack of snacks and spend the morning climbing up the mountains and enjoying the look out at the top. It’s a great way to get a workout in together and enjoy / explore the beauty of nature together. It also tires out Ronin just enough where we avoid the evening zoomies. 5. We both enjoy traveling to new places and cities together to broaden our horizons. Amber has this crazy idea to complete a marathon in each state with Phi ( and our future family ) supporting from the side. The goal combines Amber’s love of fitness and our love of travel in general. We prefer to make those marathon travels a few days in total to allow us to experience some of the things each city has to offer including tourism as well as new cultures, foods and drinks. We booked our Boston Marathon trip after only two weeks of dating. We created some of the most unforgettable memories there together and it allowed us to grow as a couple and strengthen our bond. We will definitely be back to the Boston Marathon but the next time, it will be with our future little ones.

What are 3 values that you two share?

We both value family, health, commitment and honesty.
