What Brought These Two Together

This adorable pair first met through a mutual friend while they were studying at El Centro, the Latinx community center at Stanford. Although this was their first meeting, they didn’t officially start dating until a year later. It all started when they randomly drew into the same residential house on campus, Robert R. Moore (or better known as BOB). Their friend groups meshed well together and they instantly clicked! They found themselves spending hours talking into the night on the balcony or walking around the sand volleyball courts right by the dorm.

They would talk so late into the night that one day they stayed up until 4 am chatting and decided it was time to go to sleep. However, as they headed to their respective rooms, the fire alarm sounded! Someone had caused a small fire by over-cooking some bagel bites in the microwave. This prevented them from going back into the building until the Fire Department gave the “All Clear”. Their connection was undoubtedly there, so on the way to a Halloween party, Daniela told Andrew, “I like you.” The next morning Andrew took Daniela on their date officially as a couple of bubble tea and salteñas – coincidently a perfect mix of Taiwanese and Bolivian like them!

When we asked Daniela and Andrew when they knew marriage was the next step for them, Daniela shared, “With every move together from city to city and coast to coast, we found ourselves falling more in love and growing a deeper understanding of one another. Even on our worst days, we’re the happiest when we spend time together. Through endless conversations, we realized that we share many of the same life goals and values. The culmination of all our moments together just made it clear to us that we wanted to get married. So we decided that 2022 was the perfect time to celebrate our union and our commitment with a wedding surrounded by our friends & loved ones.”

In their free time, you will find Daniela and Andrew exploring new restaurants and cuisines wherever they go, including trying new recipes at home. (Daniela says, “Andrew is quite the chef!”) As any college students struggling with finances, they found peace and beauty in driving at night. Sometimes they had no real destination in mind but they would find themselves by the California coast or a new part of the city. They love traveling together whether it’s exploring new local hiking spots or throwing ourselves into a new country with a new language. They fondly remember stumbling into a barbeque restaurant in Korea. Nobody spoke English in the restaurant but they befriended the locals and shared a meal over soju. As a couple they also share a love for spending an entire day at museums or art galleries. They often start on the same piece, move around individually and end up next to each other again admiring the work of the same artist. Following this activity, they pair it with a romantic coffee or tea date to wrap up the day. On a contrasting note in comparison to the quiet museum days, Daniela has great taste in music and introduced Andrew to the wonderful world of concerts and music festivals! They attended their first Coachella together in the spring of 2016 and had an absolute blast. Since then they have discovered new artists together and watched them live in concert as well.

Together as a couple, Daniela and Andrew value mutual respect (always and especially when they don’t see eye to eye), being open to new experiences without fear of failure or judgment, and compassion and trust as the foundation of their relationship.
